The spirit of Hilda Church returns through inspiration and the sacred....

Reimagining the sacred through art,

memory and light...

For many years, I have wandered and explored old churches and their churchyards, camera in hand - drawn by their quiet endurance and the subtle ways of time, and sensing the spirit within that shapes them. These are places of deep human story, carved faces softened by centuries, stone walls holding centuries of prayer, moss reclaiming forgotten corners.

Through photography, mixed media and source art I have worked into these images with etching and painting that has revealed meaning and symbols beyond the grey surfaces of of stone and cold. I found revealling curves, patterns and symbols that speak beyond the formalities in religeon and architecture. As from these layers in collections of moss, lichen and winged faces emerges our beginnings in a variety of emotional resonnances through expressions, belief and values held in congregations long gone. They reflect how faith and feeling- openness, humour, restraint - leave their marks on the very fabric of place.

My art is not about nostalgia but about renewal - reseeing the sacred through contemporary eyes. Each piece becomes a meditation on endurance, belonging and transformation.

Inspiration and Care

I am continually inspired by the work of Friends of Friendless churches (FOFC) and Caring for Gods Acre (CFGA) - organisations that protect and celebrate the beautyof our historic churches and their surrounding landscapes.

Their care of these silent sancturies and wild churchyards resonates deeply with my practice.

Through art I aim to echo that care - offering new ways of seeing these places, not as relics, but as living witnesses to creativity, craftsmanship, and the shared human search for meaning.

A practice between Word and Image...

As I create words often arise - short poems or reflections that accompany each artwork. Together, image and text form a contimplative language that seeks the nuances individual to each sacred place.

That finds an invitation to pause, to look closely, and to listen....
